DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
WHAT IS DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS?
Differential Diagnosis is the process of differentiating between conditions which share similar signs or symptoms. At Peak Physiotherapy and Performance, our therapists are Board Certified Orthopaedic Specialists who received additional training in the use of clinical and diagnostic testing to identify the “cause” of your pain. Many providers will put a band-aid on the symptoms and provide temporary relief, but we are trained to identify the “cause” of your pain and get you back to doing what you love!
HOW DOES ACCURATE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS IMPACT MY TREATMENT?
All PAIN is NOT created EQUAL! Even though 5 patients may all experience shoulder pain or low back pain, their treatment should never be the same. Establishing an accurate diagnosis leads to highly individualized treatment directed towards your specific condition. Since treatment is very targeted and individualized to your needs, the outcome is better and achieved much faster than other approaches. The bottom line → Accurate Diagnosis = Faster Recovery
WILL DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS TELL ME IF NEED AN X-RAY OR MRI?
Our therapists at P3 are trained to be able to tell whether or not you need an additional imaging. The good news is that most orthopaedic problems (muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, nerve) are able to be treated conservatively and do not require additional imaging. After an evaluation with one of our Doctors, education is provided about the “cause” of the problem and whether or not the problem is able to be solved conservatively with physical therapy or if referral to another provider is necessary. We pride ourselves on competent referrals to help reduce costs for the patient and provide the patient with the care they need.
